A New Responsibility

As some know, I've been quite an active member in the student union (ÖH WU) of my alma mater Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration (WU Wien). I started my career there by working in the department for public affairs to become after my exchange semester in New York, vice chairman. After my term (1999-2001) I finished my career as elected representative for the "Master of Business Administration" studies until I finished my studies in the end of 2002 only to
I thought back then that this was it, as I started as a project assistant at the department of production management and began my doctoral studies.
This year, I was asked by Benedikt Rettenbacher (the current chairman) if I would like to run for the doctoral student's union body. And as you know me, I could hardly say and so I said "yes" to be a candidate in this year's student union election that took place last week from 22nd to 24th of may 2007.
Together with Uschi Knotek, Georg Klöckler, Stefan Pennerstorfer and Viktoria Stein, we ran - supported by the great team of the AG WU - for the support of potentially 1300 voters. We wrote articles, sent out e-mails to friends and had great fun working toegether.
There are 5 representatives to be elected - and as we learnt only shortly before the election - and only 5 candidates as no-one besides wanted to do the work.
Although we had only a low 14% voter turnout in our election, it's quite understandable as most of the students don't work at the university but pursue their studies part-time.
It was then this thursday night when we could party our results, which were as follows:
1. Uschi Knotek 107 votes
2. Robert Krimmer 97 votes
3. Georg Klöckler 93 votes
4. Stefan Pennerstorfer 89 votes
5. Viktoria Stein 87 votes
I and my friends will do our best to make the doctoral program conditions at the WU even better!
And of course also congratulations to the AG WU for scoring the best result ever with 66,8% resulting in 13 of 17 mandates. Read more.
